Plain and Fancy Costume Ball

OTAHUHU FUNCTION APPEAL FUNDS BENEFIT The Otahuhu Public Hall was prettily decorated on Wednesday evening with a canopy of gay-coloured streamers when a plain and fancy dress masquerade dance was held, the funds of which are to be devoted to the Obstetrical Appeal. The duties of Al.C.’s were carried out by Alessrs. A. Alurdoch. G. V. Pearce and J. Gillies, and the arrangements for the dance were in the hands of a committee consisting of Mr. G. V. Pearce, covener, Alessrs. T.' Clements, ®H. Turner, A. Alcßaren, G. W. Venables, K. Todd. A. Murdoch, J. Gillies, F. Leslie and K. O’Hara. The judges for the fancy costumes were Airs. T. Clements and Air. G. W. Venables, and the awards were as follow:—Alost original women's, Aliss Ruby Alaher, as a Alaori Wahine; special, Airs. French, as a dustman’s daughter; best fancy dress, women, the Joker; most original men’s costume, Airs. J. Alaher as a Sundowner; best fancy costume, men’s. Air. F. Clarke* as an English Gentleman. The dance music was played by Airs. Gillies’s orchestra. Among those present in fancy costume w ere: Airs. G. S. Yule, powder blue chiffon and ecru lace. BRIDGE AFTERNOON MRS. GAMBIER ENTERTAINS FRIENDS AT FAREWELL PARTY' Mrs. Gambier, who leaves next week on an extended visit to Christchurch, entertained a number of friends at a farewell bridge party on Thursday afternoon at the home of her mother, Mrs. E. E. Nalder, in Tahora Avenue, Remuera. Four tables were engaged in play, and the large room was attractively arranged with bowls of autumn flowers. Airs. Gambier received her guests wearing a smart georgette frock and coateee in tones of pale oyster, green and blue. Mrs. Nalder was gowned in black georgette and lace, worn over canton jade chiffon. Those present were: Airs. Reg. Humphries, Airs. L. Adams, Airs. Kinnear, Airs. Alorton, Airs. G. Bartleet, Aliss Daphne Rainger, Aliss Lorna AlcGruer, Aliss Evelyn Ford, Aliss Wilma Plummer, Aliss Noel Stone, Aliss Dorothy Tancred, Aliss Nancy Biss, Aliss Cuslila Rainger, and Aliss Gwen Gooseman. EVENING PARTY Mrs. Gambier was the guest of honour at a bright little bridge party given by Mrs. Reg. Humphries at No. 5 o[iver Street, Remuera, on Wednesday evening. Lovely pink dahlias decorated the drawing-room, where three tables were arranged for play. Airs. Humphries wore a pretty larkspur blue georgette frock, with fingertip length bridge coat, and Airs. Gambier was gowned in black and patterned ring velvet, in cherry, black, and jade colourings. Others present were: Air. and Alrs. C. C. Ewen, Air. and Airs. L. Adams, Aliss Dorothy Tancred, Alessrs. R. .Laerv, F. M. Fisher, G. AlacAlillan, and C. King. COMING-OF-AGE YOUNG PEOPLE ENTERTAINED AT NARROW NECK Air. and Mrs. C. Gladding entertained a numbe? of guests at their residence, North Avenue, Narrow Neck, recently, in honour of the 21st birthday of their daughter, Alarjorie. The rooms were decorated with coloured streamers, Japanese lanterns and coloured balloons and the evening was spent in dancing. Airs. Gladding received her guests in black satin and lace trimmed with diamante. Aliss Alarjorie Gladdir.g wore cream and gold lace, scalloped hemline and pink taffeta bustle bow. Aliss Betty Gladding had on pale green ring velvet, uneven hemline embroidered in pink velvet flowers. Among the guests were Alesdames A. Gladding, in black lace and georgette; D. Gladding, rose georgette and guipure Lace; Hoskhiss, navy ring velvet and georgette; Buckingham, mauve embroidered frock; Belhose, floral chenille frock; Nettleton, black georgette worked in scarlet beads.
