BIRKENHEAD-NORTHCOTE TOURNEY FIRST DAY’S RESULTS The annual Easter tournament of the Birkenhead and Xorthcote Tennis Club was commenced yesterday. The club’s ten chip courts were in excellent condition and the arrangements made for the players and visitors by an energetic committee were greatly appreciated. The entries were a record, players competing from clubs as far North as Dargaville and from Tauranga, King Country and Christchurch. MANGAWARA ASSOCIATION From Our Own Correspondent MO RUINSYILLE, Today. The final of the Mangawara Tennis Association’s competition was played at Hoe-o-Tainui, when Taliuna defeated Te Hoe by 9 —6. The match was not played out to the end, but concluded when Tahuna won nine of the 17 sets, as it had been decided that free play should proceed after one side had won nine sets. The Austin Carr Cup was presented by the president of the assocaition to the Tahuna Club. Results of play were as follow.
