WOMEN’S HOCKEY
GAMES START MAY 10 “A most favourable start for the coming year,” was the president’s opinion of the balance sheet presented at the annual meeting of the Auckland Badies’ Hockey Association last evening. Mr. B. C. Kent presided over a gathering of more than 40 delegates and players. The report showed a credit balance of £55 13s Gd. Three new’ Auckland clubs were accepted for affiliation. They are named Kiwi, Xgaro and Ngataringa. Mr. Kent remarked on the vigorous growth of the popularity of hockey in the country districts. In seconding the adoption of the secretary’s annual report.. Mr. G. Nicholson congratulated the Badies’ Association on the vigour and interest displayed by their members in hockey activities. After considerable discussion it was decided that actual play would commence on May 10, thus leaving two Saturdays for practice. Entries are to close at 5 p.m. on May 5. Miss P. IT. Daw’son regretted the apathy of players toward the lectures given last year. Mr. Kent suggested that the lecures in future should be delivered to individual teams rather than to gatherings of players of varying know - ledge. The question was referred to the incoming executive. The meeting accepted a cup offered by Miss Dawson for the runners-up in the seven-a-.side contest. The exact awarding of the trophy was referred to the incoming executive for consideration. An offer of a trophy from Mr. George Brown was accepted.
