EASTER EGGS

With the deluge of racing on Faster Saturday, there may be a few horses that appear to stand out in their engagements, more so at Southern meetings rather than at Kllerslie, where the fields are so big and hard. Some of those that appeal in this connection are Indicated as follows: — _ Few will want to be on anything but Cylinder in the Champagne Stakes at Ellerslie, for he dominates the position in the juvenile classic. The recent form of In the Shade shows that he will have a second-to-none chance in the President’s Handicap at Ellerslie—but onlv if the track is bone dry. At Feilding there is Equitant in the On go Hack, but she is also in the Halcombe Handicap. She looks good in the former nn-o. Tunbridge has been racing excellently of late and he, too, will be a hard horse to dispose of at this southern course. There are quite a few “star turns” to be expected at the Wairarapa fixture at the Tauherenikau eourse. First and foremost is The Swell in the big event, the Easter Handicap; Tourist in t'no Tuhitarata Hack; Autopay in the juvenile affair; and whichever trainer B. Burgess elects to start in the Mokai Hack, in which he has two recent winners in Werata and Ben-Hur. Then there are Belle Star (Martinborough Handicap) and Sunkissed (Ferry Hack), two likely to be right in the picture. A number of new horses will be seen in action at the various centres on Easter Monday. However, at Ellerslie Vali stands out in the St. Leger. and if Red Fuchsia is stepped out in the steeplechase at Ellerslie on the same day he may pay to follow if not overburdened with weight. At Riccarton Gesture will, of course, be at odds on in the two-year-old classic. Others that look good down below at the same place are Lord Thomond, Fernden and Historic (Great Autumn Handicap).
