YOUTH GETS THREE MONTHS FALSE PRETENCE CHARGE “He has been out only a few months, afetr doing 12 months’ reformative detention.’* said Mr. V. K. Hunt, s.M.. sentencing Francis Grantham Carlton Ralph to three months’ imprisonment when he appeared at the Police Court this morning for sentence. Ralph, a mechanic aged 22, was charged with obtaining oil and benzine valued at £. 1 5s from Francis Morgan at Motu by falsely representing that he was employed in a garage at Tokomaru Bay. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said accused had been sentenced to a. year's reformative detention in January of last year for false pretences. He had also been before the court for theft. Mr. W. Campbell, probation officer, regretted that it was impossible for him to make any recommendation. The young man’s moral character was bad. Mr. Gatenby. for accused, was of the opinion that the trouble was largely due to lack of parental control. Ralph had understood that lie was going to work for the garage proprietor at Tokomaru Bay and had not intended to mislead the complainant.
