“SHOCKING DOCUMENT”
SECRETARY ON ABATTOIRS CONTRACT ATTITUDE OF UNION “The most shocking document I ever read.” This was the description given the proposed calling of tenders for slaughtering by contract at the Auckland city abattoirs, to a Sun representative this morning, by Mr. W. E. Sill, secretary of the Butchers’ and Slaughtermen’s Union. The position was discusesd at a meeting of the union last evening. Mr. Sill said that no development had occurred, and the attitude of the union in opposition to the proposed contract was unchanged. The terms of the contract were such that no sane man would tender. The contractors would have obligations, but no rights. A bond of practically £SOO was required, and the decision of the manager of the abattoirs was to be final in all questions of dispute. “But w© are not worrying,” said Mr. Sill. “We know perfectly well that the move wiy not be successful.”
