WINTER STRAWBERRIES
NOVELTY AT HAMILTON ; From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Tuesday. Winter strawberries! This is the luxury enjoyed by Mr. D. Morgan, of j Rosstrevor Street, Hamilton, who has | cultivated an American plant, which : for the past five months has been bearing prolifieally. Every day some ripe fruit is ready and on one occasion a whole chlpful was taken from the plant. The fruit is somewhat from the usual variety in that it has a smooth skin, but the flavour is unmistakeable. Although not so large as some of the ordinary berries of the Captain 1 Cook and Marguerite variety, the American strawberry is expected to increase in size when it is better acclimatised. No artificial means have been used to cultivate the plant by Mr. Morgan, who is an amateur gardener. It is possible that under the care of experts such strawberries could be cui tivated in large quantities in the Auckland Province for winter consumption.
