REFORM BLAMED
CAUSED ILL-HEALTH OF PRIME MINISTER STONEWALLING TACTICS That the Government tried strenuously to pass the whole of its Transport Bill last session, but was prevented by the. Reform Party, and that the Reform Party, by stonewalling the Government’s Land Taxation Bill had caused the breakdown in health of the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, were two charges levelled against the Reform Party by tho Minister of Labour, tho Hon. W. A. Veitch, at the opening meeting of Mr. Alan Honald. United Party candidate, at Remuera, last evening. “We coLild not put the Transport Bill on tho Statute Book because of Reform opposition,” said Mr. Veitch. “Why didn’t you go on with it?” he was asked. “Because they voted us out,” was the reply. A Voice: Didn’t a wire change you around ? Mr. Veitch: Nothing will change me around. Even your wisdom couldn’t do it. Referring to the Land and IncomeTax Amendment Bill of last session, Mr. Veitch said that the land taxation measures were opposed by the Reform Party alone. “The stonewalling tactics had the effect of breaking down tho health of the Prime Minister,” said the speaker. ITo concluded by saying that the Government would not be driven about by any power that might be brought to bear on it. “New Zealand gave us a mandate to carry out our policy and if you return Air. Donald you will stabilise a strong, sound Liberal Government on the Treasury benches.
