NORTH ROAD COMPLETED
TO BE OPEN TOMORROW MAIN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION The new main highway between Puhoi and Warkworth, and between Te Hana and Topuni, will be opened from tomorrow for traffic, according to advice received by the Auckland Automobile Association from the Public Works Department. These routes have been closed for some weeks while they were under reconstruction, as it was found that fast through traffic cut the new surfaces up seriously, and interfered with progress. The association is appealing to "all motorists to reduce speed when travelling over these sections, as otherwise it may be found necessary to close the roads again to repair the damage. The convenience of those travelling to and from the North will therefore be seriously interfered with if road-users in general do not observe the condition under which the road has been thrown open. In the event of wet weather, chains will be required, north and south of the two roads, and also in between, but they must be removed when travelling on the new road. Any motorist found driving on metal with chains is subject to a. heavy penalty under the motor regulations. The association has stationed a patrol at Wellsford, so that reliable information and assistance will be available to members over the Easter period. The road from Ngaruawahia to Hamilton is very corrugated in several places, and the county grader is kept busy. Many through motorists are now turning off at Ngaruawahia, and travelling via Whatawhata. This route is also recommended for motorists going to Raglan. Travellers north along the east coast should use the main highway through Albany, as the road past Brown’s Bay is very rough, and includes a clay stretch.
