TIMARU OLD BOYS

EX-STUDENTS’ REUNION DINNER JUBILEE OF SCHOOL Marking the attainment or the golden jubilee of the Timaru High School, which is to be celebrated at Easter, the recently-formed Auckland branch of the Timaru High School Old Boys’ Association. held a reunion dinner at the Royal Hotel on Saturday evening. Some fifty old boys attended, under the chairmanship of Mr. Julius Hogben, a son of one of the school’s first headmasters. Mr. Hogben read messages from Mr. W. Thomas, present rector of the school, and Mr. G. D. Virtue, of the Old Boys’ Association in Timaru. Both Mr. Thomas and Air. Virtue wished the new branch every success and sent jubilee greetings from the school and old boys. Representatives of kindred associations, namely, Waitaki. Otago and Southland, were present and spoke reminiscently of the keen rivalry with Timaru in bygone days. Mr. Hogben traced briefly the history of the school during the past fifty years and related many anecdotes of the early days. During the evening the usual toasts were honoured and the old school choruses enthusiastically sung. Air. Dan Flood entertained with several humorous selections and Air. Herbert Ingram gave “Kid from Timaru.”
