Two of the men who | were in the car appeared at the Police Court this morning. ■ Roy Martin, a seaman, aged 37, i Charged with using threatening and J insulting language on March 4 and • driving negligently on Grafton Briug!on the same date. Mr. Hart entered | pleas of not guilty, explaining that he j wished the court to hear the evidence ; Leslie Murray, a seaman, aged 26, was charged with obtaining a tin of ben. zine and three packets of cigarette from Raymond Hiratt on March It by false pretences. Mr. Hart entered a pica of guilty.
In the opinion of Mr. F. K. Hun* S.M.. Martin should not have beci driving the car at .til. The magistrate said ho was unable to separate the twmen as Mr. Hart suggested. According to Detective-Sergea* * Kelly both men were well known Murray had gone into a shop and obtained petrol by stating that he wa? from Hamilton and that he owned a motor-car. Martin was fined £5 in default 14 days’ imprisonment for using t'.-:* language and convicted and discharged for negligent driving. Murray was fined £4 on the charge of false pretences and ordered to make restitution Accused were given until Thursdav to pay the fines.
