SHORT, SHARP RAINSTORM AND HIGH WIND
WOMAN KILLED IN STREET Reed. 10.10 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. During ttfe night Sydney was swept by a phenomenal storm, which lashed the metropolitan area for an hour. The wind reached a velocity of 40 miles an hour and 39 points of rain fell in 35 minutes. Miniature rivers flowed down every street and water banked up six feet high under a bridge in Ultimo. While efforts were being made to rescue a woman who was nearly drowned at this spot, a car became submerged to the hood in the rapidlyrising waters. Its four occupants scrambled to safety. During the downpour a woman was killed by a car at Petersham.
