ME. ENDEAN CANDIDATE FOR PARNELL RESULT OF THE BALLOT After a close and extensive process of selection the Reform choice of a candidate for the Parnell by-election was made by ballot last evening. Mr. W. P. Endean was selected. Since the announcement of the resignation of Mr. H. R. Jenkins, the Reform organisation has been busily engaged in the preliminaries necessary to the selection of an official candidate. The electorate was divided in groups and the groups subdivided into zones. Meetings of the various groups were held at which delegates were elected from each zone. Upon these

Endean and R. Glover- i Clark. Mr. Dickson had held the seat for Reform from 1911 to 1925, when he was defeated by Mr. Jenkins, who had contested the seat in the United Party s interests. On that occasion Air. Gloyer-Cljirk was organiser for Mr. ; oenkins. Thus the successful nomrnee, Mr. Endean, was the only one ot the four who had not been aotivelv connected with the last contest i' Parnell. FORCES PREPARING
FIRST SPEECHES ON TUESDAY HEAVY SUPPORTS COMING With the selection of the official Reform candidate, interest in the Parnell by-election has enlivened considerably. On Tuesday the campaign should 6tart in real earnest when Mr. T. Blooclworth, the Labour candidate, will make his opening speech to the electors at the Remuera Library Hall. It is expected that all the candidates will have the support of leading members of the respective parties. Tn all probability the United Party will also take the field on the same evening, it being announced at partv Headquarters that it is likely that Mr. Alan Donald would speak on the same evening at the Moulin Rouge Theatre, Remuera. On Tuesday Mr. Donald will also speak at the first luncheon of the year to be held by the Junior United Political Party. It is expected tlfat Mr. Donald will receive the active support of several Cabinet Ministers during the forthcoming contest. The Hon. W. A. veitch, Minister of Labour, arrived Wellington this morning on official business. According to present arrangements he is to remain in Auckland until Monday. Local members of the United Party, however, hope to induce him to remain a little longer in order to speak at Mr. Donald’s meeting on Tuesday evening. Other members are expected to arrn e at various stages of the campaign, but no dates for their visits “ ave yet been arranged. Mr. Bloodworth will also have able supporters in the persons of Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P., who is organising the Labour campaign, Mr. p. Fraser, M.P. and Mr. W. Nash, M.P. It is expected that the two latter will visit the electorate during the last week of the campaign. It is also expected that Mr. Holland. Leader of the Labour Party, will take some part in the fight.
