MANGERE EAST RATEPAYERS
There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Mangere East Ratepayer’s Association. Mr. J. Clark presided. Mr. A. S. Rickards, Mangere Riding member of the Manukau County Council was present. Mr. Rickards reported that a thorough inspection of noxious weeds in the Mangere Riding had been made, and as a result, the council had authorised 60 notices to be sent out. Pie also reported that preliminary arrangements were in hand for widening and improving the footpath from the railway crossing to Paine’s corner. A letter was received from a ratepayer drawing the association’s attention to the bus service operating between Mangere and Auckland. He complained of overcrowding, and a discrepancy in fares charged for sectional trips, and 6aid no notices wore displayed in the buses setting out the various sections en route. The following resolution was carried unanimously: “That representation be made to the Manukau County Council regarding the unsatisfactory conditions of the bus service operating in the district.” The chairman reported that an additional postal box had been placed in the district at the corner of Grey’s Avenue and Massey Hoad, but as it was cleared only at 9.30 a.m. and 3 p.m., mails still had to be posted over the crossing to catch the morning train to the Waikato and Bay of Plenty districts. It was decided to suggest to the council that the two boxes in the district be cleared at 6.15 a.m.
