Mrs. Morrish is visiting her sons h» , Dargaville. Miss Whitelaw is visiting relatives ; in Whangarei this week. Mrs. Brav is visiting friends in Whangarei. Mrs. G. I. Bethell is spending a holiday in Auckland. Mrs. "Wilson has returned from a visit to Paeroa. Mr. and Mrs. Cafler have returned from a tour of places of interest, including Wanganui and The Chateau { Tongariro. Sister Sutherland, of the staff of the Auckland Hospital, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Evans. Norfolk Street. Miss Ross is Mr. I. B. Macken’s successor on the staff of the Whangarei High School until a permanent teacher j is appointed. On Monday of this week Mrs. Byrne and Mrs. Steadman entertained bridge ; players at Mrs. Byrne’s home, Hatea s Street. The guest of honour was Mrs. \ I. B. Macken, who is leaving Whanga- j rei shortly to reside in Auckland. The prize winners were Mrs. Hail, Mrs. Macken and Mrs. Glanville. The president and committee of the Whangarei Croquet Club entertained members of the club at a complimentarv afternoon on Wednesday last, in honour of Mrs. J. Walker. late green superintendent, who is leaving this month for a trip to England. As the lawns were too wet for croquet, a bridge competition was held in the Bowling Club’s pavilion. the i prizes for the highest scores being won ibv Mrs. and Miss Radcliffe. Afternoon tea was served by the committee, the table decorations consisting of exquisite dahlias. The president, Mrs. Delamore,_ in a charming speech, asked Mrs. Walker to accept a handsome leather handbag and a carry-all as small tokens of the esteem and appreciation in which she is held by her club confreres, and I wished her bon voyage. Mrs. Walker in a few words expressed her thanks to the president, vice-president and members for their kindly words and valuable gifts. Those present included:— Mesdames Delamore. Boult, G. Harrison, Morrish Walker, Woodman, Laurie, Marshall, Higginson, Baigent. Crane, McPhee, Bisset, Nutsford, Steadman. Fallen, Sloane, Holmes, Radcliffe, Hallidav, Clarke, McLean, Tennant.
