SISTER ESTHER’S WORK

UNION WITH PRESBYTERIANS The social work which for more than -0 years has been carried on by Sister Esther from 11 Picton Street. Ponsonby is to be amalgamated with the work of the Presbyterian Social Service Association. Twenty-two years ago Sister Esther , commenced her work in a very small way, and it has increased so much that last Christmas she was in touch with 600 homes. As in th§ past the work in the care of the poor and in needy homes will be entirely undenominational and will be conducted in identical lines. One of the objects of the amalgamation is to provide a hall to act as a spiritual home for those whom Sister Esther has gathered around her while aomg her work. It is also hoped to make the work permanent, and to provide for conducting it after Sister Esther has found *it necessary to retire. v For about eight years Sister Esther has had an arrangement that, in the event of her not being able to conthe Presbyterian Church would oo the work. Under the present arrangement the Presbyterian Social Service Association will carry on Sister Esther s work with the assistance of her committee. The finances of her work will continue to be provided separately, but she will have greater assistance under the new scheme. A social evening to mark the union and to welcome Sister Esther back from her holiday, will be held next Friday evening.
