PARNELL BY-ELECTION
NO NEW DEVELOPMENTS PREPARING FOR CAMPAIGN Since the announcement made on Saturday that the poll -would take place on May 7, and that the Minister in charge of the Electoral Department, the Hon. W. A. Veitch had Issued a statement that the vacancy would be formally notified in the next Gazette and the writ issued on the following day, April 11, there has been no new developments concerning the Parnell by-election. The Reform Party’s candidate will be chosen from four nominations at a conference of delegates to be held next Thursday evening. During the weekend, Mr. H. R. Jenkins who is one of those nominated, returned to Auckland from the Chateau at National Park, where he has been attending a conference of the Rotary Clubs. His return is contrary to an assertion which was made elsewhere that he would remain away until the official Reform candidate was chosen. The United Party and the Labour Party whose candidates have been chosen, are busy preparing for the campaign in the organising of committees. A meeting of Labour supporters will be held at Kohimarama this evening when the speaker will be Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P. Tomorrow evening, Mr. W. J. Jordon will address a similar meeting at St. Mary’s Hall, Parnell Road. The United Party candidate. Mr. W. A. Donald, will meet supporters of his party at St. Mark’s parish hall. Remuera. this evening, and at St. Heliers tomorrow evening. It Avas announced this morning that the new office of the Reform Party Avill be opened in Victoria Avenue, Remuera. tomorrow, instead of at the previous address, 162 Remuera Road.
