The War Ministry reveals that 40 Poilus 'at the disciplinary camp at the Island of Cleron mutinied on March 20. They entered a cafe, barricaded the doors, and sang ditties insulting to the officers. Under order to prevent bloodshed the officers had the cafe surrounded and invited the malcontents to surrender. Many complied, but the ringleaders, who were ex-naval men and concerned in a former mutiny at Calvi. refused, and were starved into submission in three days.
