GOVERNMENT DEFEAT
ELECTIONS SWEEP IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA PREMIER’S SEAT IN DOUBT' United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 11.20 a.m. ADELAIDE, Today. The general elections resulted in the Government led by the Premier, Mr. R. L. Butler, being defeated after three years of office. Tho probable state of the parties in the new Parliament and the old Parliament respectively are: Labour, 26 and 16; Liberal, 17 and 27; Country Party, 2 and 1; Independent, nil and 2. In Wooroora the position of the Premier, Mr. Butler, is still in doubt, and be will have difficulty in retaining his seat. There is a possibility that Mr. Jenkins, Commissioner of Crown Lands, will be defeated. The Attorney-Gen-eral, Mr. H. Homburg, is being closely pressed, and the Minister of Education, Mr. W. Mclntosh, is by no means certain of being returned. Contests took place in 42 of the 46 constituencies, for which there were 95 candidates. All the members of the House of Assembly and half the members of the Legislative Council went to the country.
