AUCKLAND TRIALS
FOURS FOR PRESIDENT’S TROPHIES As it is intended to row the final for the president’s fours at the Auckland Club’s At Home next Saturday, the heats were decided on the Mechanics’ Bay course. The two winning crews are to race in the final and the more promising of the losing crews to make a field of three crews for the big race. Following were the crews: R. Stacey, S. Scott, A. Coutts. F. Foote; A. Ross, J. McComish, W. Duck, R. Leabourn: R. Albrecht, G. Cleal, J. Goodsir, R. Woods: H. Gilligan, A. Andrews, H Duck, C. Battley. First Heat.—Stacey beat Ross by four j lengths. ; Second Heat. —Albrecht beat Gilligan I by a canvas. ST. GEORGE’S RACING Fours fur the Dingley Memorial trophies were rowed by St. George’s on the course inside the Hobson Bay embankment. Four crews entered as follow: V. Hargreaves, F. Solomon, E. Fort. P. Williams; W. Bright, J. Duncan. H. Tong, S. Noble; H. Jackson. *S. Hislop, C. Kelleway, H. Hilliard; 'C. D’Autlireau, T. Lambert, J. Biss, E. Auger. First heat: Hargreaves beat Bright by a length. Hargreaves had a little in hand all the way and finished well. Second heat: D’Authreau beat Jacksoil by a length and a half. Final: Hargreaves beat D’Authreau by one and a-half lengths. This race, on account of the falling tide, was rowed outside the embankment. Hargreaves led for most of the distance. WEST END CLUB ; Owing to the falling tide, and the rough water conditions, the West End j Rowing Club’s single-scull races for the Laidlaw Cup was postponed till i next Saturday.
