At Addington Last Saturday

SALIENT IMPRESSES CONCLIFF SHOWS FINE FORM Special to THE SUN CHRISTCHURCH, Today. The Addington track was in good order on Saturday, and interesting triaks, bearing on Easter racing, were accomplished. Master Audo trotted without a mistake for a mile and a-haif, which took 3.33, but he had to be shaken up to finish on. Vendome stood up Salient. Kreisler, Royal Comrade and Native Prince, starts ranging up to 36 yards when the quartet filed out from the two miles. Salient made all the running and was attended for the greater part of the journey by Kreisler, Royal Comrade, Native Prince and Vendome in that order. With half a mile to go, Vendome began to improve her position, and once in line for home she was close up with Native Prince and Kreisler. Salient was still going comfortably in front however, and finished up an easy winner from Royal Comrade and Vendome together, with Native Prince and Kreisler close up. Salient was responsible for the solid pace throughout, and he came his last half mile in 1.6, without turning a hair. Lust Pointer had a companion when he paced a mile in saddle, but he broke with a furlong to go and the clock showed only 2.22. Last Pointer has been a big disappointment in harness, and his effort this morning does not enhance his chances of proving successful as a weight carrier. Saddle to Zenith Zenith was stopping at the end of a mile saddle essay, which took 2.13. The grey pacer has been nominated for both mile saddle events at the Metropolitan Easter meeting. Regal Voyage and Orphan were associated in a sprint essay, the former pleasing most. Aquilin was out doing serviceable work. He has built up a lot and is nearly ready to tackle business for the classic engagements under F. J. Owen’s care. When Linkman, Lingfield, Maiwhariti and Concliffe were assembled at the two mile disc, clocks were busy, and track watchers were not disappointed with their efforts. Linkman carried on from the start, taking things easy for the first mile. Two furlongs further on he was challenged by Maiwhaiti and Lingfield, while Concliffe began to move up from the rear. Linkman was eased approaching the three furlongs and Lingfield headed Maiwhariti to lead into the straight. Then Concliffe put in his claim and sustaining a good run he had slightly the better of Lingfield at the end of the journey which occupied 4.32. The last mile and a-half took 3.22, and the last half 1.6. Concliffe was going away at the end and proved himself a class above his rivals. It is evident from his effort this morning that the Australian pacer is ready to play a big part in immediate engagements. Carmel shaped well at a mile and aquarter. Erin’s Lynn and Rose Audo were companions over a mile and a-half. A skip near the finish took some merit out of the trotters performance. Pro Rata’s Mission Omaha, Pro Rata and Sonoma sprinted together. Sonoma is a recent addition to F. Holmes’s string, and will bo a competitor in the Express arid Halswell Handicaps, both of two miles at Addington. Pro Rata’s mission will be the Welcome Handicap, for three-year-olds, a race in which his prospects are already favourably regarded. Dolores and Nelson Ata set out to go a mile and a-half. They were together when joined after six furlongs by Trampcrisp, and ran home in 3.34 without the last named who broke two furlongs from the post. Dolores was going best' at the finish. Muriel De Ora gave Laplander and Jolly Pet a l)g start in a mile and aquarter brush. Jolly Pet made most of the running, but Laplander finished on strongly in the run home to gain a slight advantage at the line, Muriel De Oro being some lengths back. The time was 2.50, and none of the trio was extended in the early part.
