KILLED IN BUSH

ROPE STRIKES WORKER BLOCK BREAKS SUDDENLY From Our Own Correspondent ROTORUA. Saturday. The death of John Henry Sunnex. the young bushman, who was killed in the bush near Xgongotaha on Thursday. formed the subject of an inquest held today by Mr. R. B. Nesbit, actingcoroner, and a jury of four. John Henry Sunnex, a bushman, residing at Mangorewa, said that deceased was his son, and was employed by the National Timber Company. Witness was working in the bush on Thursday afternoon roping a log by means of a steel wire rope and winch. About four o’clock one of the blocks keeping tlie rope in position broke. When witness noticed that something was wrong lie called out to liis son to blow the whistle, but got no reply. He ran along to see what was the matter and found his son lying on his back. He was alive, but badly injured about the head. Witness thought the rope recoiled and struck his son on the head. Dr. W. S. Wallis said that when he arrived at the scene of the accident the man was dead. The injuries were consistent with his being struck by a wire rope, the cause of death being cerebal concussion. The jury’s verdict was that the death was accidental and no blame attached to anyone.
