TWO HOURS’ DELAY
TRAM TRAFFIC DISLOCATED DERAILMENT IN SYMONDS STREET The derailment of a tramcar at the corner of Wellesley and Symonds Streets where the tracks are being relaid dislocated tram traffic in Lower Symonds Street and Wellesley Street East for nearly two tyours last evening. An inward bound tram was crossing the intersection at 5.45 p.m. to proceed down to Anzac Avenue when the front, wheels jumped the points and took the rails of the Wellesley Street line, while the points springing back to the cor- - rect position sent the rear bogey down the other line. The tram left the rails and the front wheels fell six inches between the sleepers which had been uncovered by the workmen. The work of replacing the tram was difficult and it was not until nearly eight o’clock that the route was again open. All inward bound trams were deflected along Karangahape Road and down Queen Street and cars that had followed the derailed tram down Symonds Street had to be taken back to the Karangahape Road junction.
