TRAINING FARMERS
MORE SCHOOLS NEEDED ASSOCIATION’S VIEWS The need of extended means for j agricultural education was stressed by Mr. H. S. W. King at a meeting of j the council of the Auckland Metro- | politan Agricultural and Pastoral AsS sociation yesterday. I ‘The Education Department seems to have called a halt to post-primary education of this type, although all over the country politicians are declaiming that the future of the counj try lies with the farmer,” said Mr. King. Eighteen months ago the promise had been made of a secondary school with an agricultural bias at Otahuhu. but so far nothing had been done. A larger number of students than ever before were entering for the agricultural courses provided, yet there was no sign of the facilities being extended. The association s views are to be conveyed to the Minister of Education and to the members for the Auckland districts. It was reported that the recent show at Epsom had resulted in a loss of approximately <£lo4. as against a loss of more than £250 the year before. The attractions committee is to consider the advisability of arranging night entertainments for next year’s show, and will approach the promoters of a military pageant which is to L»c held early next year, with view to cooperating. The dates for the next show were fixed as Febrtiary 26. 27 and 2S of 1931. The resignation of Mr. S. IT. Barton , who is going to Fiji shortly, was accepted wjth regret, and Mr. Chas. Hanson appointed to the vacancy on the council. Mr. C. W. Anderson was added to the same body. Mr. W. J. W. Pascoe was elected to the Winter Exhibition committee in place of Mr. Barton.
