HOWICK WATER SUPPLY
PIGEON MOUNTAIN SCHEME RESERVOIR TO BE ERECTED A problem that has caused concern for some time, that of a water supply fnr the Howick district, has been solved. After some investigation a shaft 24ft deep has been sunk in Pigeon Mountain from which a good supply is obtainable. Contracts for the concrete lining of the well and for the provision of a pump shed have been completed and contracts have been let by the Howick Town Board for an electrically-driven pump and all the necessary pipes for the delivery mains and reticulation. It is expected that they will arrive at j Ihe beginning of next month. The total cost will be about £3,213. Plans are being prepared for a reinforced concrete reservoir on the Stockade Hill to store 75,000 gallons, and with a pumping capacity of 8,000 gallons an hour. The mains will be kept charged by the pump until the reservoir is completed. The reticulation will be made in main streets by six-inch and four-inch mains with suitable mains for residential streets. It is expected that it will be three months before the reservoir is available for domestic purposes.
