DUST COMING OVER

NEW ZEALAND MAY EXPECT MORE “RED RAIN” BLOWN FROM AUSTRALIA

SYDNEY, Wednesday. Dust blown from Central Australia hung like a pall over the coastal districts cf New South Wales today. The State meteorologist expresses the opinion that the dust will be carried in the higher currents of the air to New Zealand, as happened last year, when falls of “red rain” were recorded on November 27, in the Nelson and Marlborough districts and in portions of Taranaki. The Government meteorologist ascribed the colour of this rain to dust blown across from I Australia. On the previous day one of the most I severe duststorms recorded in Aus- : tralia for many years had been ex- | perienced in northern and far-western | New South Wales and in Southern Queensland.
