FREIGHT REPRISALS ON N.S.W. LINES PASSENGER FARES REVIEWED United F.A.—By Telegraph— Copyright Reed. 10.24 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. Losses of £2,084,000 on the State railways and £345,250 on the trams during the year are forecast by the State Treasurer, Mr. B. S. Stevens, in the Financial Statement to the Legislative Assembly. Among the proposals for dealing with the problem is the recovery of portion of the business lost to road transport. Legislation is being considered authorising withholding lower freight rates from consignors who utilise road transport for portion of their business and it is proposed also to withhold in similar cases the starving stock rate. Passenger concession fares will be reviewed.
