“A VERY GOOD IDEA”

MR. FLETCHER’S PROPOSALS ROUSE COMMENT HELPING N.Z. INDUSTRY Special to THE SUN WELLINGTON, Today. “It seems a very good idea, but it must be remembered that these functions are those of the Industries Board, which we are asking the Government to appoint,” said Mr. F. Campbell, president of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, in commenting on the recent proposals of Mr. James Fletcher, of Auckland, that there should be additional powers given to a reconstituted department consisting of the merged Departments of Industries and Commerce and Scientific and Industrial Research, to investigate industry and recommend lines of action for the improvement and establishment of manufactures in the Dominion. “We hope that this board will come out of the investigations of manufacturing possibilities which the committee appointed by the Minister of Industries and Commerce is shortly to announce,” said Mr. Campbell. “If it does we shall be satisfied.”
