SANDRINGHAM EXTENSION
VINCENT ROAD TERMINUS REQUESTED MR. G. MUNNS IN SUPPORT “If it would be an advantage to take the Sandringham tram extension to Vincent Road and, should the Transport Board have the money, I can assure you that very serious consideration will be given to the proposal.” The deputy-chairman of the Transport Board, Mr. G. Baildon, gave this assurance to a deputation of residents from the vicinity of Vincent Road, when representations were made to the board this morning with regard to the Sandringham extension and the advantage of serving the Vincent Road area. Mr. J. P. Aydon headed the residents and a letter on the same question came to the board from Mr. G. C. Munrs, M.P. for Roskill. In it Mr. Munns, referring to the proposed extension from Sandringham to Mount Albert Road, agreed that the logical terminus for the route was along Mount Albert Road to Vincent Road. Many residents would benefit along the route and an important centre would be served. Were this plan carried out the route would eventually become part of a completed system. The proposed section from Sandringha mterminus to Mount Albert Road was much too short. Mr. Munns said he was aware that the money borrowed for tramway extensions was in accordance with defined routes and distances, but he believed the extension to Mount Albert Road would meet with opposition. Speakers on the deputation referred to the rapid growth of the Vincent Road district. Mr. L. E. Rhodes remarked on the possibility of using a surplus, should any exist after the extensions contemplated were completed.
