LET AUSTRALIA DOWN
CANADIAN AGENT TELLS THE TRUTH R. A. HAYNES RECALLED Reed. 10.20 a.m. CANBERRA, Today. The Minister of Markets, Mr. Parker Moloney, has explained why Mr. R. A. Haynes; who was Australia’s commercial representative in Canada, was recalled and subsequently resigned. The Minister said Mr. S. McKay, of the Sunshine Harvester Works, had decried Australia in Canada and helped to damage her credit and good nanie abroad. It was expected that Mr. Haynes would have protected Australia against such damaging statements, but he had associated himself with Mr. McKay's remarks and repeated them at a public gathering in Canada. Mr. S. V. McKay, commenting on Mr. Hayhes’s resignation and the Minister’s statement concerning it, says it will shock the public to learn that the only reason for Mr. Haynes’s recall was that he honestly stated the facts about Australia’s present industrial difficulties.
