AGROUND AT THAMES

- PORT WAIKATO SAILED TH!S MORNING From Our Own Correspondent THAMES, Today. Captain Watchlin, of the new coastal steamer Port Waikato, has cause to remember the steamer’s initial trip to Thames. The vessel arrived here on Wednesday and unloaded Australian hardwood poles for the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board, # and a quantity of South Island produce. On Thursday, Captain Watchlin made an effort to clear the port, but the Port Waikato swung round and stuck fast in the mud. Another attempt was made on Friday morning, but the vessel grounded again. Last evening a further effort was made for an hour and the boat gained about 10 yards, but the attempt was then abandoned owing to the falling tide. This morning, with the aid of a powerful launch, the Port Waikato was got off.
