“THE SPOILERS”
GEORGE BANCROFT STARRED In tli© first important motion picture deal consummated in the New Tear, Paramount Pictures has acquired the talking screen rights to Rex Beach’s sensationally successful story, “The Spoilers.” George Bancroft will be starred in the production and Edwin Carewe has been engaged to direct. Under the guidance of Carewe, wno is recognised as one of the greatest creative director-producers in the industry, “The Spoilers” will offer Bancroft the best role of his career. Against the rugged background of Alaska in the gold rush days, the story lends itself perfectly to dialogue and sound picture production. Paramount officials express the belief that it will be one of the outstanding pictures of the season. Carewe has already joined the staff at Paramount’s Hollywood studios and advance preparation is under way. Moana Maris has been assigned the feminine lead opposite Warner Baxter in “The Arizona Kid.” which Fox Films will produce. Alfred Santell will direct. Warner Baxter and Moana Maris previously worked together in ••Romance, of the Rio Grande.” Miss ; Maris recently completed the leading j feminine role oposite Don Jose Mojica j in “One Mad Kiss.” Warner Baxter is i at present working on the finishing ■ scenes of “Such Men are Dangerous.”
Eight dance directors and 20 song writers will take an active part in the next “Fox Movietone Follies of 1930,” which Bennjamin Stoloff will direct, and which will feature every worthwhile star in Hollywood. Dudley Nicholls, former New York j newspapermen, now writing dialogue for i pictures, is seeking to re-establish old • contracts and form new ones with the i underworld of New York City since he | has been assigned to write the dialogue ! for “Born That Way,” in wihch Ed- ! mund Lowe will be featured by Fox Movietone. The story is based on the j gangster novel, “Louis Berretti.”
