BACK TO ROTO ROA
THEFT OF CLOTHING FROM HOUSE SHORT-LIVED FREEDOM Pleading guilty at the Police Court this morning to a charge of theft, Matthew Millard was remanded for a week to see whether arrangements could bo made to have him returned to Roto Roa Island, whence ho came only recently. Millard, a labourer, aged 38, pleaded guilty to stealing on March 27, a suit and an overcoat valued at £4 10s and belonging to Edward Fitzgerald . Chief-Detective Hammond said Millard had stolen the clothing from a house in Vincent Street where he had been living. He was by no means a desperate desperado. He had four previous eonvi6tions. His last appearance before the court had been for drunkenness on Marcli 3. Staff-Captain Holmes, of the Salvation Army, said tho man was suffering from war injuries. He had but recently left Roto Roa Island. The captain proposed that he consult the secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ Association to see if anything could be done to get Millard returned to the island. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., made a remand of one week.
