ANZAC DAY
ARRANGEMENTS BY R.S.A. The arrangements for Anzac Day were discussed by the Returned Soldiers’ Association at a meeting last night. It was decided that the 11 o’clock morning service would be similar to that of last year, with the exception that there would be no parade. The service would be conducted in the Town Hall, the main body of which would be reserved for returned soldiers and their wives. Arrangements had been made with IYA to broadcast the service, and amplifiers would be installed in the building for that purpose. In the afternoon a short service would be held, and the main features would be the territorial parade, the placing of wreaths, and the sounding cf the ‘ Last Post.” The arrangements for the morning service were in the hands of the City Council. The contingency of the Anzac cerej mony at Waikumete being abandoned was considered, and it was thought that at least some effort should be made to avoid s.uch a course, as the association had erected a memorial in the district. It was agreed to communicate with the Glen Eden Town Board regarding the question. It was stated that the membership of the club was only 10 short of 11,000 and showed an increase of 178. The allocation of the funds was de- | elded as follows:—10 per cent. Veterans’ Home, 15 per cent. Returned : Soldiers’ Association, and 75 per cent, to unemployment trustees. | The suggestion that a cable conveying greetings should be forwarded j overseas to the 29th Division and the I Indian Mountain Battery on Anzac Day I was accepted by the association. It ■ was also agreed to convey greetings to the navy through its representative I in New Zealand, Commodore G. Blake.
