CAUGHT 53 SHARKS

OCEAN ISLAND FISHIHG GROUNDS UNUSUAL TROPHIES New big-game fishing grour.cfe have been found by the officers of the? motorship Roseric, which arrived at Auckland last evening. The grounds are at Ocean Island, just below the equator, and almost due north of New Zealand. While the Roserice was waiting for a fortnight for a berth at Ocean Island the officers spent their time shark-fishing. The fish are plentiful in those waters, and the catch totalled 53 sharks, the biggest being a ten-footer. Walking-sticks and belts are some of the trophiea of their spo-tt. The backbones were cleaned, and strong wire was inserted, making walkingsticks of unusual markings and designs. Some of the skins were cured and made into serviceable belles.
