For its postponed extra day’s racing, to be held on May 24 (Empire Day), the Taumarunui Racing Club has arranged the following programme approved by the Auckland District Committee. The conduct of the Taumarunui meetings is always favourably commented on by owners and the public generally, and it is anticipated that the additional day’s sport will bo a success from every viewpoint. INJURED HORSEMAN H. GOLDFINCH IMPROVING Reassuring reports come from Te Aroha concerning the condition of the injured horseman, H. Goldfinch. It will be remembered that jockey Goldfinch received severe internal injuries when his mount Arikitoa fell in the Piako Hack Handicap on the second day of the Te Aroha Jockey Club’s annual meeting. His condition became very grave subsequently, but the turning-point was reached and he has been progressing very favourably, while the past week especially he has shown a marked improvement. A continuation of the present rate j of progress will see the popular horseman removed from the institution very shortly. Apart from the accident itself it was a very unfortunate occurrence for Goldfinch, for at the time he was riding at the top of his form, and his services were in such demand that he had raised himself to the head of the jockeys’ premiership.
