CLOTHES BOUGHT THROUGH EMPLOYER DISMISSAL OF CHARGE A charge of false pretences made at the Police Court this morning against Samuel Stevens was dismissed. Stevens had bought clothing through his employer’s account, but was dismissed before paying for it. Stevens, a salesman, aged 48, was charged with obtaining clothing valued at £2 11s lid from Macky, Logan and Caldwell, Ltd., by falsely representing that the goods were for John Edgar Wade, of 464 Upper Queen Street. Mr. Sullivan appeared for accused and pleaded not guilty on his behalf. Stevens had been for about a year in his employ as a salesman, according to Wade, a furniture dealer, of Upper Queen Street. The man hurl been dismissed about the middle of December and shortly after, witness had received an invoice from Macky Logans for goods bought by Stevens two days before ke was dismissed. Wade added that he had written to Stevens and had been informed in reply that Mr. Sullivan was arranging his financial affairs, but would not be back in his office until the end of the legal holidays in January. An attempt would then be made to clear up everything. Wad© admitted to Mr. Sullivan that Stevens had previously bought goods through his wholesale account. Detective Allen said he had arrested the man on March 19. He had admitted obtaining the goods and that he had not paid for them, but added that Wade could proceed against him civilly. ‘'No case,” decided Mr. F. Iv. Hunt, S.M., and the charge was dismissed.
