MISS ETHEL DESTROYED

The valuable brood mare Miss Ethel, was destroyed last week owing to an incurable leg injury. The loss is indeed a serious one for her owner. Mr. W. Kemp, the well-known Eilerslie trainer, for he believes in racing only the stock he breeds, and all the horses that have carried his livery in recent years were progeny of Miss Ethel. This daughter of Wairike and Miss Rose gave to the turf some useful performers in Mary Bruce, Emerald Hill, Golden Glass. King Emerald and Gold Money, the last being a really good sprinter when at her best. Miss Ethel's yearling son (by Chief Ruler) is a very attractive juvenile, and if looks go for anything, he will add posthumous fame to his dam's name.
