CHANGING HOLIDAYS
HAMILTON S.M. SUPPORTS SiDEY PROPOSAL From Our Oten Correspondent HAMILTON, Monday. Strong support to Sir Thomas Sidey's proposal to advance the Christmas holidays a month was-accorded by Mr. P. W. Platts, S.M.. C.M.G., speaking at the inaugural gathering of the Otago Club here on Saturday night. *'lt is interesting to observe that this scheme lias not received anything like the hostile criticism that at first greeted daylight saving,” said Mr. Platts. “But we are all so conservative at heart: we are so frightened at any change in long-established practice that already opposition has been raised to this new idea.” The speaker pointed out that in Hamilton and other northern towns, the change of holidays would save children from exposure to sickness that close confinement in overcrowded, ill-ventilated school rooms in the hottest month of the year invariably brought. To choose the finest and warmest weather for our holidays just us sensible as daylight 'saving. London business men to >k their long vacation in August, which was England’s best month.
