REUNION OF SHIPMATES
BRODICK CASTLE PASSENGERS Shipmates of the ship Brodick Castle, which arrived in Auckland from London on March 23. 1876. held a reunion in the tearooms at the Farmers’ | Trading Company. Ltd., yesterday ! morning. Mr. XV. Richardson, of Papatoetoe. who was baker on the ship, presided over an attendance of about ! 30. Other passengers were prevented from assembling by the bad weather. About 270 passengers and immigrants ' sailed on an eventful voyage on the : Brodick Castle. Commanded by Cap- : tain Thyne, the vessel left London on I October 7. 1875, and was disabled off i th© Bay of Biscay. She was towed to i Plymouth to refit, and later resumed j her interrupted voyage, leaving Plv- ! mouth on December 14. The passage :to New Zealand took 99 days. At one j stage of the trip the captain had to '• contend with some insubordination i from certain members of the crew, who j on arrival at Auckland were handed j over to the police.
