MANUKAU YACHT CLUB
KERMATH CUP RACE The Manukau Yacht Club held a harbour race for yachts on Saturday and in addition handled the second and final series for the Kermath Cup, a launch event over a 28-mile course. Weather conditions were very mild —a ilight south-west wind that increased to moderate force during the afternoon. The sailing boats went away to their handicaps in the following order: Mist Maid, Janet, Betty, Sea Toller, Nyria, Daphne and Drone. On the completion of the first round the positions were the same, except that the scratch boats were steadily overhauling the limit ones. On the beat out for the second time Nyria worked to the front, with Sea Toiler and Janet struggling: for second place. Nyria finished with four minutes to spare, having sailed well up to championship form: her youthful skipper. Andrews, one of the boys who kept Manukau in the Cornwell Cup series, deserves commendation for his handling of the boat He is certainly the most improved among the junior yachtsmen on the harbour. Sea Toiler secured second place, by three-quarters of a length from Janet; the finishing order of the other boats being Daphne, Mist Maid and Drone. Betty retired from the race. Four power boats lined up for the Kermath Cup, lolanthia, the limit boat, winning. Rainbow was second and Surprise third. Rosita broke down, which was a disappointment, as it was hoped that she would give Rainbow, the first serie’s wiimer, a big tussle. lolanthia broke down in the first race but was well tuned up on Saturday.
