WHERE THERE’S SMOKE-
TAKAPUNA SCRUB FIRE Two acres of dry gorse caused clouds of smoke which drifted across Northcote and as far as the city at about mid-day yesterday. The burn-off was at the harbour end of Tennyson Avenue. Takapuna, and raised as much smoke as a fair-sized bush fire. The gorse had been cut for some time, and was like tinder after its exposure to the autumn sun, and with dry paspallum grass to help it, burned rapidly.
