YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED The Child Welfare Act was discussed at the annual meeting of the Auckland Women’s Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. Speakers quoted instances where the Act had operated harshly and it was decided that the Investigations Committee should take action with a view to bringing about improvements. The president’s report, which covered a wide variety of subjects investigated during the year, was adopted. Mrs. M. B. Soljak, who is leaving Auckland shortly, was elected a life member of the branch. Officers were elected as follow: President, Mrs. L. Harrison (reelected); secretary, Mrs. A. M. Cassie; vice-presidents, Mrs. Maguinness and Miss Sanderson; treasurer, Mrs. COll- - corresponding secretary, Mrs. C. Gibson; committee, Mesdames Hallett, Vercoe, R. Bennett, Martin and Butterfield; delegate to L.R.C., Mrs. Cassie; delegate to combined branches committee, Miss Sanderson.
