RAGWORT AT PURIRI
DEPARTMENT SEVERELY CRITICISED THAMES COUNTY COUNCIL From Our Own Correspondent THAMES, Saturday. The report from the Agricultural Department on the ragwort at Puriri was adversely commented on by the Thames County Council. It was maintained by one councillor that no proper inspection of the affected area I had been made, and that the depart - 1 ment’s letter was an attempt at “white- ! washing.” The report stated that the 1 area * n question had been inspected by i Mr. Munro, the principal inspector, ! who stated that the only patches seen : had been cleared. | Councillor Courtney said that a week { a fter the report was received, there j were thousands of ragwort plants in the flowering and seeding stages. The report, said the speaker, is a direct insult to our intelligence. “If the Department will send an officer along I will show him ragwort, flowering and seeding, on the property he says he has inspected.” The chairman Mr. 11. Lowe, said he had noticed hundreds of plants in full bloom near the locality. A resolution was carried that the ; Council notify the Agricultural DepartI ment that they are absolutely disc satisfied with Iho reports.
