ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS
Accommodation, N.K.L., has a plot of grass. 23 yards square. How many hens should be kept on it, and what should he the size of the house? If you wish to keep this as grass, you will not be able to keep more than half a dozen birds, and I should divide it into two runs, and as soon as the grass is getting worn off one half, turn the birds on to the other half, and sow it lightly, if need be. with grass seed. A house sft by 4ft would accommodate this number of birds, and with careful attention they should get on very well. I should prefer White Leghorns or White Wyandottes, or Black Leghorns or Anconas as a breed. Gone Off Laying. Novice. Mount Albert.—You do not say anything about your supply of green food. The birds should have as much green food as you can supply if they are not on a grass run, and if you can dig over their run (if an earth run) it would be all the better. They might have two teaspoonslul of Easton’s Syrup to each pint of the birds’ drinking water for a week or ten days. You do not tell me what you are giving the birds as food, so I cannot say whether there is any discrepancy in this direction.
