FAREWELL EVENING
MISS CRAIG COWAN IS HONOURED GUEST PAPATOETOE FUNCTION An enjoyable evening was spent at the residence of Mrs. John Redshaw, Birdwood Avenue. Papatoetoe, on Thursday evening, when a number of old girls of the Young Women's chrisian Association gathered to bid farewell to Miss Craig Cowan, ex-matron of the hostel, prior to her departure for the Islands. The spacious rooms were prettily decorated with multicoloured streamers, from which hung quaint balloons. Vises of chrysanthemums and poppies were also effectively used During the evening Miss Marjorie Hinge contributed a vocal solo, Miss Nancy Melville an elocutionary item and Master George Redshaw a’pianoforte solo. The s-upper tables were prettily decorated with masses of carnations. chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern. The toast of the guest of honour was proposed by Mrs. Redshaw. Miss Cowan suitably responded. Miss Cowan was the recipient of an autograph book, which was presented by Master George Redshaw. Mrs. Redshaw received the guests wearing a dainty frock of beige crepe do chine. Miss Cowan vies attired in a froe-k of sapphire crepe de chine, with ivory facings. Among those present were Mrs IT • \ Ernest, who wore a pretty figured black crepe de chine frock; Miss Marjorie Hinge, vieux rose crepe de chine, Avith reliefs of silver; Miss Nancy Melvillc, frock of lemon pleated georgette; Miss Edith Smith, fuchsia crepe de chine, with mauve reliefs; Miss Effle Jackson, accordcon-pleated powderblue crepe de chine and lack frock; Miss Doris Andrews, ivory crepe de chine, with palest blue facings.
