SOUTHDOWNS MAKE TO 65GNS. Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. For the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Ram Fair there was an entry of 314 stud rams and 5,524 flock rams. A feature of the fair was the good demand for English Leicesters. There was a ready sale for Southrdowns in the flock sections, but stud Southdowns were slow of sale at reduced values and passings were frequent. The top price for Southdowns was 65 guineas.

English Leicesters were the biggest section. Lower grade rams were not much in demand, but there was sustained inquiry for better sorts. The top price was 80 guineas. There was a marked slackening in the demand for both stud and flock Corriedales.

Following is the range of prices for stud rams:—Border Leicesters, 8 to 40gns; English Leicesters, to 80gns; Southdowns, 7 to 65gns; Shrop-shires, 10 to 40gns; Romneys, 6 to SOgns; Corriedales, 6 to 50gns. For flock rams the range was: English Leicesters, 2h to llgns; Border Leicesters, 32 to 94gns; Romneys, 2\ to lOgns; Rvelands, 5& to 12|gns; Southdowns 2\ to 102gns; Shropshires, 2\ to 6igns; Corriedales, 2 to 16gns; halfbreds, 2 to 6Jgns. PAPAKURA STOCK SALE From, Our Own Correspondent PAPAKURA, Friday. At the Loan and Mercantile Company’s Papakura cattle sale today prices were lower than at recent sales. There was a yarding of about 500 cattle. Dairy cows, best, made to £ll to £l3; others, £9 to £lO 10s; good heifers, to £l2 10s; store steers, in good condition, sold to £ll 7s 6d: 2 to 3-vear-old steers made up to £9; Shorthorn yearling steers brought to £6 10s; dairy yearling heifers, from £3 10s to £5 10s; Jersey yearling heifers, to £6; bulls from £6 10s to £9 7s 6d for heavy sorts; others, £4 10s to £6; weaner calves were dull of sale; best Jersey calves made £3 15s; others, £2 10s to £3.
