News has been received that Mr. a Eric N. Smith, son of Mr. J, D. Smith, | of Hamilton, who is a medical student k at Otago University, has gained the | Otago championship for the 120yds ? hurdles. His time was 10 4-ssec against a strong wind. The following officers were elected j j at the annual meeting of the Frank- jf. ton Rugby Football Club on Wednes- j j day evening:—Patron, Mr. C. J. Par- l lane; president, Mr. T. Tyne; secre- j tary and treasurer, Mr- P. A. Syers; assistant secretary, Mr. F. Pickup; delegates to Hamilton Union, Messrs. W. Udy, O. Castles, P. A. Syers; club captain, Mr. C. Oxenham; coaches, seniors, Mr. R. McWilliams; seconds, Mr. Castles; thirds, Mr. W. Williams: fourths. Mr- Oxenham. Hamilton is still without a proper motor camp, but there is every possibility that the borough council will approve of the proposed new site by the river at Hamilton East. This area is fairly sheltered, on a main road, and with excellent bathing facilities. Teams representing Taranaki and South Auckland will play a cricket match at Hamilton at Easter. Some time ago a writer in The Sun j j described the tine avenue of old trees in Grey Street, Hamilton East, as the best boulevard in the Dominion. Local residents think so, too, and petitioned the council on Wednesday evening to give an assurance that the trees would bo neither disfigured nor removed. The I Mayor said the present council had no i intention of interfering with the trees. j A meeting of the Optimists’ Club i was held on Wednesday evening.
