ROXY AND EMPRESS
“PEACOCK ALLEY” Mae Murray, who is well known to Auckland audiences for her work in a number of successful productions, has the leading role in the glamorous production, “Peacock Alley,” which is now being shown at the Roxy Theatre and at the Empress Theatre, Newton. The story deals with society life in America, a feature of interest being the introduction of special colour effects. Vocal and dance numbers have been cleverly interwoven into the story. Good supporting features are shown at both theatres.
SUBURBAN THEATRES
The Tivoli Theatre, Karangahape Road, is screening “The Cocoanuts,” the big talking comedy introducing the four famous Marx Brothers of the New York stage, and “Romance of the Rio Grande,” a talking and singing picture starring Mona Maris and Warner Baxter. The Britannia Theatrfe, Three Lamps, is presenting the tuneful musical revue entitled “Words and Music,” starring Lois Moran and David Percy. The Rialto Theatre. Newmarket, is showing “Joy Street,” starring Lois Moran, and “Get Your Man,” starring Clara Bow. The Regent Theatre, Bpsom. is screening “Joy Street,” a tale of New York's gay night life, starring Lois Moran, and “Tip Toes,” an amusing story of the British nobility and the London stage, starring Dorothy Gish. The Theatre Royal, Kingsland. is to show “The Tragedy of Youth” and “The Weiled Woman," a romance of Morocco, starring Jetta Goudal.
VICTORIA, DEVONPORT
The powerful drama of the British in the Sudan, “Four Feathers,” which is based on the exciting novel of the same name by A. E. W. Mason, will be screened again this evening in the Victoria Theatre, Devonport, Richard Arlen, Clive Brook and William Powell have the roles of British Army officers, Noah Beery is a villainous Arab trader and Fay Wray is the sweet English girl back home. ~ A considerable part of the film was actually taken in Africa. A full supporting programme is also being shown. Filming on “Slightly Scarlet,” a new Paramount all-talking production, costarring Evelyn Brent and Clive Brook has been completed at the Hollvwood Studios. “Slightly Scarlet” is a Continental adventure romance.
