ORDERED TO FORFEIT £l2 IN WAGES “WHY SHOULD I STARVE?” “Why should I be starved?” inquired John Samuel Brown, pleading guilty at the Police Court this morning to a charge of deserting from the ship Piako, at Gisborne, on June G. Brown, described as a fireman, aged 28. was said to have been shipped in London. After working up in the bush he had come to Auckland to look for further employment and was arrested by Detective-Sergeant McHugh. He had been sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment in Timaru last year for ship desertion. Mr. F. JC. Hunt, S.M., directed that Brown forfeit the £l2 wages due to him.
